How to Disable SkyDrive Integration in Windows 8.1
Cloud storage services are constantly vying for attention, and the inclusion of SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 is indicative of the importance Microsoft places on it. But not everyone is so enamored with the service and would rather that it wasn’t so hard-baked into the OS. Using Group Policy Editor or the Registry Editor, it can be disabled. .....

Doesn't work.  We have just spent 8 hours trying to solve this Skydrive taking over everything crap.
We have been through 67 forums, tried EVER suggestion and nothing works, Skydrive automatically opens when trying to upload or download anything, We have NO OTHER OPTIONS to download to computer and keep from using Skydrive.  There is no possible way to do this.

MY ANSWER....[/[/i]b]

When you say <There is no possible way to do this. > , well that is not true on a Windows PC. There is always a way to delete or erase a software program. There is manual deletion always possible which means deleting the Program Files and associated Registry keys. Be assured if any part of those of a software program are deleted it is not going to work. Move to this can happen by accident or from malware corrupting a software, and so the flip side at a forum is such and such doesn't work and how to fix it.

First off, you had to have created an account for SkyDrive to activate the synchronization process. You wrote <Skydrive automatically opens when trying to upload or download anything>. So to start you must delete the account you opened to stop any automatic synchronization process from running as you signed up for and is now working properly. Without canceling the account, to then try and disable it is acting like some virus would - an "illegal" or out of bounds action that is not appropriate.

TRY simply canceling your account PROPERLY and then write back if that did not take care of it. To attack from a desperate removal/disable action would be the LAST course of action here you would want to take. The other simple measures of PROPERLY making SkyDrive inactive/disabled are then employed with no account active. This is much as uninstalling unwanted softwares that come with a new computer - "bloatware". .... same type of action, disabling/uninstalling unwanted softwares or services on a Windows PC.

Sync settings between PCs with SkyDrive

To stop syncing all settings

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

Tap or click SkyDrive, and then tap or click Sync settings.

Under the Sync settings with SkyDrive heading, turn off Sync your settings on this PC.

When you turn off syncing between PCs running Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, some of your system and app settings will remain stored in the cloud. If you want to remove them, you must do so separately. To learn how, go to Delete your personal settings from the cloud and sign in to your account.
